Without an account, your plans are stored only in this browser on this device (see Data privacy). Exporting creates a backup file you can keep safe, restore later, or move to another browser or device - useful whether or not you also use an account.
Export your plans
- Open Control Center.
- In the Export Plans card, click Export all plans.
- Your browser downloads a single .rfplan file containing every plan you have. Save it somewhere safe - it's just a text (JSON) file.
Import your plans
- Open Control Center.
- In the Import Plans card, click Import plans.
- Choose a .rfplan file. The plans inside it are added to your existing plans - nothing you already have is overwritten.
When to use this
- Back up your plans regularly, so clearing your browser or losing a device doesn't take your work with it.
- Move to a new browser or device - export on the old one, import on the new one.
- Recover after clearing site data or reinstalling your browser.
Make on-device storage more durable. Installing Retirement Figures as an app - from your browser's install option, or the Install App card in Control Center - tells your browser to hold on to this site's data, which reduces the chance it evicts your plans to reclaim space. It's not a substitute for exporting backups, but it's a good complement. Prefer syncing? Create an account and your plans are also kept safely in the cloud.
Coming from the previous version? If you had an account with an email address or Google, there's nothing to import - just sign in the way you always have and your plans are already there. If you used a no-email plan, use the Sign In or Sign Up button at the top, go to Sign in, then click Have a recovery key? and enter your recovery key once to bring that plan (and your Plus, if you had it) into this browser, where it's then stored locally.
Using encryption? If you've turned on cloud encryption, keep a current export. Because there is no passphrase recovery, a plain backup file is the only way to recover your plans if you ever forget your passphrase. Exports are always unencrypted so they stay portable, so store them somewhere safe.
Good to know. The export includes every plan, active and archived. Importing is additive - imported plans get fresh ids - so restoring a backup never clobbers your current plans. Keep your backup file private; it contains your full plan details.
On an account? Imported plans count toward your plan limit, so if a backup has more plans than your plan allows, you can import the ones that fit or get Plus to import the rest.
